8. WHY DOES THE AURORA MOVE?

The auroral curtain moves, sometimes slowly and sometimes rapidly, across the sky. Auroral scientists record these movements with a variety of instruments. Among them is an all-sky camera, which produces circular images of the entire sky, and a satellite-borne imaging device, which produces global images of Earth.
